Telligent will pull users in with their low pricing, then seriously ramp up the cost in future versions – this was their strategy with Community Server – they quoted us $5000 to upgrade to the latest version, when we had spent $400 on the previous. Buyers beware!

ASP.NET has one major advantage of being able to use everything in the .NET framework. Even though I use WordPress (PHP), I actually make HTTP-POST requests to ASP.NET pages to generate headings using WPF.

this will never attack wordpress, coz wordpress is the king for 2 reasons
1st cheapest servers in the world support php and not asp
2nd wordpress is FREE!

We’ve looked at using CMS software like this before but it really doesn’t take long to knock up a few asp.net templates and a few tables in SQL server to run a blog and it gives you maximum control.

Apart from speed and ease of entry are there any other advantages to using something like Graffiti that I may have missed ?

Compare to WP?
Maybe I didn’t look close enought, but where is the source?
Grafiti is cripled when you used the free version.
The prices also do not compare to WP:
Buy Graffiti, $399, pre-order for $99
Also last, wordpress is a blogengine, not a CMS.
Maybe you could try to compare dotnetblogengine to wordpress. but grafiti… no…

Graffiti will support the full Mono project… I will be able to run on any *nix box.

Graffiti is decent. I’ve tried it. It was easy to setup. But its never gonna threaten WP in any sense that will make WP nervous. Why? Licensing. Install WP (in not much more time than it takes to install Graffiti) and you get everything. Period. If you want to use Graffiti without paying for it, you get a “crippled” (limited) version of it. With WP, there are no limitations or restrictions. Besides, WP has literally thousands of plugins and a massive userbase/community contributing to it.

Sorry…I understand where you’re coming from. Graffiti is decent, but I couldn’t resist questioning the “major attack on WP” idea.

It’s a pretty nice `out-of-the-box` and easy to use CMS, just like WordPress, that’s why I compared it to it. You can set it up and customize it quicker than DotNetNuke, although it has less features but just those you need for a wordpress-like-cms.

Of course it will never touch wordpress regarding the amount of people who use it, but that’s because they run on different environments and PHP is way ahead of ASP.NET when we talk about the usercount.

Lex: I only needed about 2 minutes to install it, where did you run into problems? It’s beta1, that’s why there isn’t much documentation yet
