I got my new BlackBerry Curve 8310 today and honestly already expected to experience problems when trying to run it on Windows Vista.
So here’s what you have to do to properly install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.3 and your BlackBerry Device:
- Install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.3, be sure to download the latest Version here. I’m using 4.3.0.15 (Auguest 2007)
- After the installation don’t reboot your PC and do not start the Desktop Manager yet
- Plug your BlackBerry in by using the supplied USB Cable
- Now the important part: Vista will tell you it found new hardware but no proper driver for it. Choose to manually search for a driver, type in C:\ and hit enter.
- This will occur several times, just proceed with C:\ and enter.
- After about 5 times you should be done, now you should be able to start the Desktop Manager and use your BlackBerry.
If you don’t do it that way, the Desktop Manager will detect your BlackBerry phone but it won’t be able to work with it, the connection will always fail when you try to use the Synchronizing Service or the Backup/Restore Manager.
Furthermore you should update your BlackBerry Device Software, for T-Mobile Germany go here to download the latest Firmware: BlackBerry Device Software Downloads. Thanks to Quintt for the comment!

The Blackberry Device itself has a Software version. You should update it (Options / Info) if necessary. The BB’s 8310 Curve latest Software for example is v4.2.2.176 (Nov 2007)
Thanks Quintt, by using the latest Device Software the Roxio Media Manager seems to work, too.
THANKS! Worked like a CHAMP!!!

I have a 8130 Blackberry Pearl and everything works great until I try to sync. I am using Vista with 4.3 but keep getting all sorts of errors. I’m about to loose my mind. Has anyone had similar problems and if so, what is the solution.
Hallo:
I can not install Desktop Manager version 4.3 in my PC (with windows vista home premium).
During the installation apears this message: “Could not access VBScript run time for custom action”
Has anyone of you the same problem?
I tried to install version 4.2 Service pack 2 and had the same problem.
Thank you for your help.
Yeah, I’m having an issue when installing the BDM software on Vista Home Premium. There are 4 DLL files that don’t seem to install. I even downloaded the latest version of the software from the site and still get the same errors. All I really want to do is be able to sync my contacts from desktop to phone. If anyone has any ideas on what to do, shoot me an email.
BTW, my email is tarman@orgoo.com. Thanks.
where can i download blackberry desktop manager for frree?
Go to Start\Programs\Accessories
Right Click Command Prompt and Run as Administrator
Type C:\Windows\System32 if not already there
Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll
Close the Command Prompt
This has worked for many but not for me. Hope it works for you.
Thank you Juan, it works!! at least for me.
Best regards.
Hey, Im running Vista Home and I was wondering if your little trick works with any other versions of Desktop Manager?? (like 4.5 or 4.6) Email me at pinkuaelita@gmail.com with any information!
Thanks!!!

OMG what a nightmare I have just got a blackberry curve 8900 and I am trying to download the desktop manager, the disk that came with it, is not working and I think it is because of Vista (on my laptop) do anyone know what I am ment to be downloading???
Teresa:
Just went through this – has been a NIGHTMARE! Beware Blackberry users – if for some reason you cannot connect with Desktop Manager – there is NO OTHER way to backup or restore your phone!! My computer stopped recognizing my new Blackberry Curve. I went to AT&T store & got a new phone. So far my computer is finding it & Desktop Manager is working. It stopped working with my previous Curve – scary when ALL my contacts are backed up to it!! ANYHOW – AT&T customer support made it clear that they do NOT support version 4.7 found on the Blackberry site. Go to: http://www.att.com/bbdownloads and download version 4.6. See if that helps. If not…I suggest going to an AT&T store & make them give you a new phone!! I CANNOT believe as sophisticated as the Blackberry line is supposed to be – there is NO WAY to backup your contacts EXCEPT through Desktop Manager!! Very disappointing!
